BA/BS in Art Practice

Art Practice offers production-based courses grounded in the ideas, techniques and cultural perspectives of contemporary art. The studio program builds skill in several areas of visual art and favors an integration of media, often along a cross-disciplinary and interactive path. Students meet a range of practices early, giving them a basis for comparison if they later focus on one medium. Courses span drawing, painting, printmaking, sculpture, photography, video, animation and digital work, and students must pass mid-term and final critiques of their work. A minor and an honors option are available. The major sits within the School of Humanities and Sciences at Stanford University, an undergraduate campus in California. The Stanford Bulletin carries the official requirements, and the major page lists suggested introductory courses for students who want to sample the field before declaring.
