Overview

Archaeology examines the past through the material remains that survive today, offering direct access to the lives of people in many cultures. Stanford's program takes an interdisciplinary approach that combines the humanities, the social sciences and the natural sciences. The curriculum draws on faculty across the university, so majors complete courses both within the program and in other departments before earning the Bachelor of Arts. A minor and an honors option are also available, and the Stanford Archaeology Center supports the community of students. The major sits within the School of Humanities and Sciences at Stanford University, an undergraduate campus in California. The Stanford Bulletin carries the official requirements, and the major page lists suggested introductory courses for students who want to sample the field before declaring.
