BA/BS in Atmospheric Sciences and Meteorology

Atmospheric and Oceanic Sciences prepares undergraduates for many careers related to meteorology. The curriculum satisfies the requirements for those aiming to join the National Weather Service or private forecasting firms, and it also supports entry to graduate school. The coastal setting lets students study local weather such as hurricanes, nor'easters and sea breezes, along with how regional climate is changing in a city by the coast. The major is based in the School of Marine and Atmospheric Sciences. Areas of study include climate, meteorology and interactions between the atmosphere and ocean. Sample courses examine tropical meteorology, Doppler weather radar, global climate change and how to analyze atmospheric structure. No additional admission requirements apply beyond the general criteria.
