BA/BS in Fine and Studio Arts

Studio Art and Design at the Sam Fox School's College of Art is offered as either a Bachelor of Fine Arts or a Bachelor of Arts. Students can focus on studio art, communication design or fashion design, and they build skills through hands-on courses in areas such as printmaking, textiles, game design and photography. The BFA is the more studio-centered route, with roughly half of all coursework taken in the studio and a capstone experience that ends with an annual thesis exhibition. The BA gives studio work a smaller share, about a quarter of coursework, which leaves more room for broader liberal arts study, and it has no capstone requirement. WashU undergraduates in other fields can also add studio art or design as a second major or a minor. Portfolio guidance, admissions details and scholarship information are linked from the program page.
