Overview

The statistics major teaches methods, applications and theory for collecting and analyzing data, and it prepares students to frame questions and decide what information answers them. Coursework covers how experiments and surveys are designed, how data are analyzed and how results are communicated to others. Students complete an emphasis track that builds depth in a chosen area, which lets them apply statistical skills in fields such as business, industry, government and research. Class sizes are typically moderate, so students interact regularly with instructors. Faculty in the Department of Statistics and Actuarial Science conduct research and teach courses, and many contribute to journals in their field. Graduates pursue careers in data analysis, research and related analytic work across many sectors. Students also learn to communicate statistical findings clearly to audiences without technical training.

Requirements
