The anthropology program leads to an MA, which can be completed with or without a thesis, and to a PhD. Both degrees are conferred by the Graduate College, with instruction provided by the Liberal Arts and Sciences college.
Applicants write a brief statement of interest explaining why graduate study in the field appeals to them, submit a sample of their writing, ideally a research paper, and apply for graduate awards. Prospective doctoral students also include a copy of their master's thesis.
Students begin in the fall term; the spring and summer sessions are not offered. Standardized graduate exam scores are not required.
Applications are made online in two stages: the Graduate College form with its fee comes first, and supporting documents are then uploaded to the applicant's personal admissions profile. Recommenders are emailed instructions for submitting their letters electronically.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: Applicants must satisfy the Graduate College and departmental requirements and submit the online application with the application fee ($60; $100 for international applicants). Supplemental materials: statement of interest, writing sample, Application for Graduate Awards, recommendations; PhD applicants also submit their master's thesis.
