The Dance Wellness certificate is a compact credential in the theatre and dance area, aimed at people who want to connect movement training with health and well-being.
Students take about three semesters of technique, choosing from styles such as modern, ballet, jazz, tap, African and hip hop dance at several levels. They add one course in a multidisciplinary area, either mind and body health or introductory psychology, and one wellness experience course such as anatomy for dance or dance as a healing art.
Electives include community dance initiatives, conditioning for dancers, teaching dance to children and new choreographic work. The total ranges from twelve to seventeen credits depending on choices. Catalog rules set a 2.00 cumulative average for completion at the Missoula campus, and courses that count toward the credential must be passed with at least a C-.
