Program details

Overview

Economics students learn to reason with the analytical tools of the field and to apply theory to economic and social questions. They also practice judging how well theoretical predictions made by scholars hold up. The subject is defined as how choices get made when resources are scarce, and classroom discussion ranges from financial markets to corruption and economic development. The program belongs to the Williams School. Students join extracurricular activities run by the school and can join summer research with faculty. Alumni go on to consulting, public agencies, banks and nonprofits, or continue to law school and graduate study, and some win national fellowships. The major gives students a flexible quantitative and analytical foundation for work in many sectors. Because the subject touches so many areas of life, the major pairs well with other interests.
