BA/BS in Biology, General

Biology at Whitworth aims to give students a wide grounding in how living systems work and how the diversity of organisms is organized. Students also learn to carry out scientific investigation and are encouraged to treat science as a responsibility, not merely a method. The department links this training to questions of worldview, inviting students to consider how what they learn shapes their sense of God and of their place in society. Graduates are expected to command a broad base of biological principles and facts. Students can choose a bachelor of arts or a bachelor of science in biology. A neuroscience major examines the development, structure and function of the nervous system and includes a research project built on literature review, design and analysis. Related options include biology and neuroscience minors, environmental studies, and study through the Au Sable Institute.
