BA/BS in Chemistry

Chemistry at Whitworth prepares students to take part in modern chemical questions with confidence and to contribute beyond campus. The department expects clear speaking and writing, careful reasoning, strong skills at the laboratory bench and experience with independent research. Graduates head toward work in industry, academia and the professions. Learning outcomes ask students to trace how chemical theory developed, apply current knowledge to solve problems and explain scientific matters in writing. Students may pursue a bachelor of arts, including a track designed for pre-pharmacy preparation, or a bachelor of science that builds on a common core. The science degree offers a general track as well as biochemistry and physical chemistry tracks. A chemistry minor is also available, and interdisciplinary courses connect the subject with neighboring fields so students can see how their training applies more widely.
