Samuel Jackman Prescod Institute of Technology

Samuel Jackman Prescod Institute of Technology (SJPI) is Barbados' main public technical and vocational tertiary institution, based at Wildey, St Michael.

Established in 1969 as the Samuel Jackman Prescod Polytechnic and rebranded as SJPI in 2017, it describes itself as the premier technical and vocational skills-training institution in Barbados and the wider Eastern Caribbean. The institute offers more than fifty certificate and diploma programmes across divisions including agriculture, automotive and welding engineering, building studies, business studies, electrical engineering, human ecology and mechanical engineering, delivered full-time, part-time, in the evenings, and online through its Distance and Continuing Education division.

It also administers Caribbean and National Vocational Qualifications (C/NVQs), Prior Learning Assessment and Recognition (PLAR), and professional accounting courses leading to the ACCA qualification. As a public institution under the Ministry of Education, Technological and Vocational Training, SJPI is the designated host for several government tertiary grants, including the Tertiary Construction Grant for construction-trade students.

It is listed on the Barbados Accreditation Council's register of tertiary providers, where its registration was recorded as in progress rather than finalised as of the most recent published list.
