Independence Junior College

Independence Junior College is a government-operated tertiary institution on Savannah Road in Independence Village, Stann Creek District, established in 2007 to provide local access to post-secondary education in southern Belize.

It was created through an initiative of the Ministry of Education in partnership with the administration and board of management of Independence High School, and it continues to operate as a public, co-educational junior college. The college awards two-year Associate Degrees, with confirmed tracks in Business Management and Accounting delivered through its Evening Division for working students, alongside additional Business and Science programme options.

Admission follows the standard Belizean tertiary pathway, requiring secondary-school completion with passes in CSEC General Proficiency English Language and Mathematics, plus the Association of Tertiary Level Institutions of Belize (ATLIB) placement test; the college also maintains credit-transfer arrangements for students entering with prior tertiary coursework. As the principal junior college serving the Stann Creek District, Independence Junior College fills a geographic gap in Belize's tertiary system for students in the Independence/Mango Creek area who would otherwise need to travel to Belize City, Belmopan or Dangriga for college-level study.
