Founded 1946 as Private Northern Sichuan Agriculture and Industry College.

Merged with Xishan Academy and became Private Northern Sichuan University 1949. Merged with Northern Sichuan College of Humanities to shape Public Northern Sichuan University 1950.

Became Sichuan Normal College following the incoporation of East Sichuan Education College and part of Sichuan University 1952. Separated in two schools, one of which was called Nanchong Normal Vocational College 1956.

Upgraded to university-level and renamed Nanchong Normal College 1958.

Renamed Sichuan Normal College 1989. Acquired present title 2003.
