Created 1948 in Henan by the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China as North China Defense Cadres Training Class.
Successively became North China Public Security Cadres School 1949, Central China Public Security School for Cadres 1950, Central China People's Public Security College 1953, Central China Politics and Law School for Cadres 1959, Central China People's Public Security College 1984. Acquired present title 1984.
Acquired present status following the incorporation of the China People's Police University 1998 (founded 1978). Also incorporated Ministry of Transportation's Beijing Jiaotong People's Police School 2000.
