Founded 1951 as Tibetan Cadres Training School.
Successively became Tibet Military District Cadres School, Tibet Local School for Cadres, Tibet Administration School for Cadres, Tibet Normal School 1965, Tibet Normal College 1975. Acquired university status and current title 1985.
Merged with Art School of the Tibet Autonomous Region, Tibet Junior Medical College and the Medical Department of the Tibet College for Nationalities,Tibet Autonomous Region Finance and Economics School 1999. Merged with the Tibet College of Agriculture and Animal Husbandry 2001.
Tibet College of Agriculture and Animal Husbandry became indipedent 2016.
