Founded 1948 as the Henan Fifth Administrative Area Union Teachers School on the basis of the old Xuzhou Teachers School (1907).
Successively became Henan Provincial Xuchang Teachers School (1946), Henan Xuchang Teachers School (1953), Xuchang Teachers School (1963), Henan Xuchang Normal Vocational College (1978), Xuchang Normal Junior College (1992). Acquired present status and title 2002.
