Our Bachelor’s Programme in Business Administration (BBA) is a full-time, three-year programme (180 ECTS), delivered on site at the University of Vaasa - the largest provider of business education in Finland. The programme offers you a work-life relevant and research-based business education. It prepares you to continue your studies directly at Master’s level (3+2 years). After graduation, you can also choose to work in a variety of professional roles ranging from marketing, product/service development, and logistics in Finland and in an international business environment.In our programme, you will learn to understand companies, their organization and their business environments from a viewpoint that integrates sustainable business, energy and society. Master's programme in Smart Energy Transition (MSc Technology)Major in Electrical Engineering, orMajor in Energy EngineeringOngoing energy transition requires new set of skills to realise future intelligent, sustainable, flexible, and resilient energy systems. Next generation electrical power and energy engineers need to understand an increasing amount of different interdisciplinary interactions ranging from enabling technologies to new business models and market structures.Our renewed Master’s Programme in Smart Energy Transition offers students the opportunity to gain excellent capabilities to renew the industry and create future-proof solutions for sustainable and smart energy systems.The programme offers applicants the choice of two majors: Electrical Engineering or Energy Engineering, with 35 dedicated credits (35 ECTS).Both majors follow additional studies in Digitalisation (15 ECTS) and Business Studies (20 ECTS) to provide an integrated and multidisciplinary education ready for industry.The programme also provides a range of elective courses to choose from. Preparedness and Resilience supports the university's strategic goals by providing international master's-level education that responds to global societal changes. The programme trains experts who understand the broad, multi-stakeholder and democratic decision-making nature of resilience and preparedness, and who are able to operate, lead, guide and coordinate these networks, as well as analyze and anticipate developments related to resilience and preparedness and respond to them strategically. Graduates are placed in public administration organisations, companies and associations.In addition to supporting public organizations in their transformation, graduates of the program can support business development from a preparedness and resilience perspective, as the studies strengthen and develop expertise that identifies and manages resilience and preparedness networks formed by public and private sector actors.The programme is located in the academic unit of management, in the field of administrative sciences. The core of the programme is in social sciences, but preparedness and resilience are approached in a multidisciplinary manner.

The Master’s Degree Programme in Accounting and Auditing aims to equip students with advanced knowledge, analytical skills, and practical expertise in financial reporting, auditing, and regulatory compliance in relation to sustainability issues.  The Programme develops a deep understanding of international accounting standards, auditing, financial management, and ethical considerations in financial decision-making.  Graduates will be prepared to proceed in professional accounting and auditing roles, and support sustainable business practices in a dynamic global economy. Through a close link of theoretical foundations and practical applications, the Programme develops critical thinking, problem-solving, and leadership skills that are essential for success in the accounting profession.

Experts in economics are called economists. Economists’ skills are needed to analyze and monitor the economy, financial markets, and business operations. These skills include mastery of economic terminology, utilization of statistical data, and critical evaluation. The globalizing economy and intensifying competition require that experts and managers have a good understanding of economic activity and analytical ability. Studying economics offers insight into the success and growth factors of companies and the economy for those in demanding work tasks. All economics teachers at the University of Vaasa work as active researchers in our research group, where the special focus areas are 1) Financial literacy, 2) Sustainable growth, intangibles and energy economics, 3) Banking and financial markets in global perspective. Education in economics provides up-to-date information and skills regarding economic development based on practice, theory and research. The subject's researchers are well networked, for example at the Ministry of Finance and the Bank of Finland. Experts from the Bank of Finland organize an annual Macroprudential policy and financial stability course. As part of studies in economics, we organize excursions to interesting and economically important cities in Europe. While a bachelor's degree in economics creates a professional foundation, a master's degree in economics provides developed capabilities to work as an economist. Those with a degree in economics typically work in expert and management positions in banks, insurance companies, and other companies. Graduates of economics also have other wide range of employment opportunities across various ministries and central banks. A degree in economics also offers good opportunities to work as an economist in public sector and third sector organizations or in academic teaching and research positions. Our master's students are exposed to macroeconomics theories and applications that fill the gap between intermediate macroeconomics and more advanced competence. The contents assist students' economic thinking prowess toward attaining macroeconomic goals and objectives of the UN SDGs (SDG-8, 9, and 10). The students develop a good knowledge of modern growth theories and the roles of human capital, intangible capital, and R&D in generating sustainable economic growth. Economic problem-solving skills are enhanced by integrating skills from other master’s courses, including microeconomics, portfolio theory, and Macroprudential policy and financial stability. These courses ensure that our students understand investment theories, banking practices, and the synergy between monetary and fiscal policies for sustainable economic growth. Students also understand the basic frameworks under which central banks practice their monetary policies and how other economic agents make investment decisions. The principles of bank management and analysis of bank performance and risk are taught with in-depth analysis. The English-taught major, Sustainable and Autonomous Systems is a collaborative programme with the University of Oulu, leveraging the strengths of both universities in sustainable energy systems and intelligent, autonomous systems.Automation, telecommunications, and information technology bring intelligence to various devices and systems so that they operate efficiently, reliably, and as autonomously as possible. Through telecommunications, devices communicate with each other and enable remote management of systems. The themes of the study track include automation, software and telecommunications technology, artificial intelligence methods, robotics, embedded systems, cybersecurity, computer modelling, and application-specific digital solutions such as data centre systems, positioning technologies, and the utilization of satellite data.In information systems science, digitalization is harnessed to serve business objectives.
