Overview
Enssib is a public scientific, cultural and professional institution, governed by decree n° 92-25 of 9 January 1992.
It is both a "grande école", responsible for training state library managers, curators and librarians, recruited by competitive examination, and a specialised university institution, awarding the master's degree and two institutional diplomas. The School also offers a wide range of lifelong training courses, both on site and by distance learning, as well as validation of prior learning and accredited courses.
Heir to the École nationale supérieure des bibliothécaires created in 1963, Enssib has developed over the years an original training offer, at the crossroads of the professional world and academic research, which today makes it the French reference institution in the field of information science, librarianship and digital information management. Within the framework of the 2016-2020 five-year site contract, Enssib is accredited for four master's degrees.
It hosts two research teams, Elico and the Centre Gabriel Naudé.
Through its websites and its digital library, it promotes research and the dissemination of resources in information science and the history of books and libraries. The Enssib is a member of the Network of Schools of Public Service and an associate member of the University of Lyon
