Tokyo Toritsu Daigaku (Tokyo Metropolitan University), Tokyo Toritsu Kagaku Gijutsu Daigaku (Tokyo Metropolitan Institute of Technology), Tokyo Toritsu Hoken Kagaku Daigaku (Tokyo Metropolitan University of Health Sciences) and Tokyo Toritsu Tanki Daigaku (Tokyo Metropolitan College) were merged under the name of Shuto Daigaku Tokyo (Tokyo Metropolitan University) in 2005. Shuto Daigaku Tokyo (Tokyo Metropolitan University) was renamed as Tokyo Toritsu Daigaku (Tokyo Metropolitan University) in 2020.
