Founded 1973 as a military higher school under the Ministries of Armed Forces and the National Education.

Acquired public status and attached to the Cheikh Anta Diop University of Dakar (UCAD) 1992. Merged with the industrial division of the former ENSUT and the Industrial technology section of the former ENSETP to form ESP, with centres in Dakar and Thiès 1994.

Following the creation of University of Thiès, the Thiès Centre of ESP became Ecole Polytechnique de Thiès (EPT) and was attached to the new university 2007. Acquired autonomy 2009
