Daily life at Newcastle University Singapore

Newcastle University in Singapore is the Singapore arm of the UK's Newcastle University, and its degrees are developed, examined and awarded by the home campus in England.

Activity is divided between taught master's study, a research institute and a joint undergraduate route run with a local partner. The taught postgraduate offer consists of three MSc programmes in energy and sustainability fields: Energy Management (Renewable Enterprise), Energy Security, and Business Analytics (Sustainability).

Newcastle academics teach them at a partner academy's premises on Orchard Road. Students can begin in September or January, and the course lasts twelve months full-time or twenty-four months part-time, built from six modules plus an enterprise project.

Research degrees, the MPhil and the PhD, are run through the Newcastle Research & Innovation Institute, known as NewRIIS, a wholly owned subsidiary that operates as a registered private education institution.

Supervisors work in marine technology, power systems, and mechanical engineering with an energy and sustainability focus. Intakes fall in January, April and September, and places are restricted to Singapore citizens, permanent residents and certain pass holders.

Some candidates qualify for industry-linked funding such as the Industrial Postgraduate Programme. Undergraduates take joint degrees alongside the Singapore Institute of Technology in naval architecture and marine engineering, electrical power engineering, and mechanical design and manufacturing engineering.

Applications go through SIT, and a compulsory three-week visit to the Newcastle campus closes the first year.
