How It Works
1. The 3-Parameter Logistic Model (3PL)
The ENEM does not give one point per right answer. The INEP applies Teoria de Resposta ao Item — every question carries three calibrated parameters: discrimination a, difficulty b, and pseudo-guessing c. The probability of a candidate of ability θ answering item i correctly is P(θ) = c + (1 − c) / (1 + e−a(θ − b)). The TRI score (mean 500, SD 100, anchored to the 2009 calibration) is the θ value that best fits the candidate's answer vector.
2. The Regulatory Trap: Why Two 30/45s Score Differently
A naive simulator multiplies raw hits by a constant. The 3PL does not. If you scored 30 hits by getting every hard question right and the easy ones wrong, the model judges that pattern as inconsistent — it suspects guessing and pulls your θ down hard. Conversely 30 hits on the easy and medium bands matches the expected response curve of a θ near 700 and the score climbs. This is why we collect hits per difficulty band rather than a single total.
3. The Redação Is Not Inside the TRI
The essay is graded separately on a 0–1000 scale (five competências, each 0–200 in steps of 40). It is not normalised through TRI. In SiSU the redação is a fifth weighted column alongside the four area scores — Medicina courses commonly weight it 3×, while Engenharia courses may weight it 1× and Matemática 4×.
4. SiSU Weighted Average
The Sistema de Seleção Unificada ranks candidates by a weighted mean across the five components, using weights each university publishes per course. The profiles included here reflect the most common weight families: equal (1:1:1:1:1), Medicina (CN heavy + redação), Engenharia (MT heavy), Humanas (CH/LC heavy), Direito (LC + redação).
