The BSc in Accounting gives a solid grounding in accounting theory and practice for anyone pursuing a career in business and finance. As the accountant's role has broadened beyond pure financial reporting, the curriculum also builds competencies relevant to policy work and organisational decision-making, aiming to protect the public interest by ensuring graduates who identify themselves as accountants have the necessary technical skill, professional judgement and ethical grounding.
Graduates can claim up to four certification exemptions from ACCA, the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants, which can shorten the route to becoming a Chartered Accountant to around two years after graduation. Offered online through UWI's Open/Global Campus, the degree runs for three years full-time or four years part-time, and also suits people already pursuing other professional accounting designations within Caribbean business and public-sector organisations.
