Overview
The Wholistic Care for Newcomers to Canada Certificate is a two-term online program at Burman University that prepares students to support newcomers in settling safely in Canada. The ten-course curriculum covers safety and life skills for newcomers, family dynamics in settlement work, newcomer needs and effective counselling, Canadian law and human rights, individual and family finances, intercultural relationships, health and well-being, understanding welcoming patterns, and a settlement studies practicum. Delivery is a mix of asynchronous and hybrid course formats depending on the individual course, with instructors located across several Canadian provinces. The program combines classroom instruction with community-based practical experience, preparing graduates for entry-level roles supporting newcomer and immigrant settlement services in community and non-profit organizations.
