Program details
Overview
Arts, lettres et communication (DEC 500.A1) is a pre-university program at Cégep de Sorel-Tracy offered under the profil Arts, médias et société. Students study and experiment with a range of artistic and media forms, including film, photography, live performance, writing, journalism, documentary, television, series production, advertising, radio and sound editing, with each discipline taught through its own techniques and conventions before students are invited to combine forms of creative expression. The program page describes its aim as helping students find their own voice and perspective on their lived experience and society through art and media. It suits students with a particular interest in creation and communication, intellectual, social and artistic engagement, a capacity for critical reflection and analysis, curiosity, and the ability to work across different art forms and transfer what they learn between them. The program is positioned as preparation for university studies rather than direct entry into a media career, and the page notes past graduates who have gone on to creative careers such as authorship, citing one alumnus's published novels as an example.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: Domestic admission requires a Quebec DES or DEP with passes in Secondary V language of instruction, Secondary V second language, and Secondary IV mathematics, per Cégep de Sorel-Tracy's general college admission conditions; the programme page states no further academic prerequisite specific to the Arts, médias et société profile. Applications are submitted through SRAM (admission.sram.qc.ca) as a regular candidate, with a non-refundable $30 fee. International applicants are admitted for the Fall session only and, unless they studied in French, in Quebec, in France, or at an accredited French lycée, must submit a French-proficiency test result — Bright Language, TCF tout public, DELF tout public (minimum level B2), DALF, or TEF — plus an $85 CAD SRAM application-analysis fee, by the 14 March deadline.
Application Details
Start Date:September and January
Application Deadline:Domestic applicants apply through SRAM (admission.sram.qc.ca): the college's page currently shows fall-intake rounds of 1 March, 22 April and 27 May 2026 (the cycle that has already started) and winter 2027 rounds of 1 November and 25 November 2026, with later applications assessed in successive rounds while seats remain; fall 2027 round dates were not yet published at the time of this check. International applicants apply through SRAM's international stream and must submit by 14 March for fall entry only, as the college does not offer winter intake to international students; SRAM does not publish a separate rolling window for these applicants beyond that fixed date. These are institution-wide dates; this programme publishes no deadline of its own.
