Program details
Overview
This attestation of college studies (AEC) develops the competencies needed to practise as a specialized educator, working in prevention, adaptation, rehabilitation, and social integration with children, adolescents, adults, and seniors who face social, emotional, or behavioural difficulties. The program combines a 675-hour classroom component delivered over 19 months, with online instruction from live instructors on Tuesday and Thursday evenings and one Saturday in three, followed by a prior-learning recognition (RAC) stage for candidates with relevant work experience. Eligibility for the RAC pathway requires at least 1,000 hours of work experience as a specialized educator. Attendance at a mandatory information session is required before enrolment, and an interview may also be required. This evening and RAC format allows working candidates to combine study with continued employment in the field.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: Applicants must hold a Secondary School Diploma (DES) with at least two consecutive sessions of interrupted study, or a Diploma of Vocational Studies (DEP), or an equivalent. Eligibility for the prior-learning recognition (RAC) component requires at least 1,000 hours of work experience as a specialized educator.
