Centennial College’s Software Engineering Technician (Fast-Track) program offers qualified computing graduates an accelerated pathway into modern software development, with a focus on AI-supported tools, full-stack applications, databases, testing, collaboration and applied project work. This streamlined option helps students build the practical software development competencies used by modern development teams, including AI-assisted coding tools, automated testing practices, intelligent development environments and collaborative workflows. In two semesters, students strengthen their software engineering skills while gaining hands-on experience with modern programming, web and mobile development, databases, software testing, version control and AI-assisted development tools. You will learn to: Build, test and refine applications using languages such as Python, JavaScript, TypeScript, Java and C#, with support from AI-assisted development tools. Build full-stack web applications using React front ends, Node.js back ends, APIs, and user-centred interface design principles, while also developing mobile applications using Android. Work with relational and NoSQL databases, including SQL Server, Oracle and MongoDB, in modern data-driven applications. Perform software testing and quality assurance, including unit testing, automated testing and AI-assisted debugging. Apply project management fundamentals, including agile teamwork, task planning, code collaboration and iterative delivery using modern tools. Use AI-assisted tools to support coding, debugging, documentation, testing, productivity and code quality. Apply agile teamwork, Git and GitHub collaboration, and introductory CI/CD workflows. Explore foundational machine learning concepts and intelligent component design as they relate to modern software applications. A capstone project in the final semester gives students the opportunity to build a polished, portfolio-ready software application using modern frameworks, collaborative workflows and AI-supported development tools.
