Georgian College offers HD in Child and Youth Care Accelerated Delivery, a higher diploma in Social Work programme in Barrie, Canada. The programme runs for 4 semesters, delivered on campus. Teaching is in English. Tuition for international students is CAD 7,619 per semester (CAD 1,387 per semester for local students).
Practitioners trained through this program support children and youth dealing with social, emotional and behavioural difficulties connected to mental health struggles, trauma, abuse, cognitive and developmental issues, or contact with the child welfare and justice systems, working alongside children, youth and families across a range of settings to build on strengths and navigate change. Coursework has students practising evidence-informed strategies for therapeutic prevention and intervention, drawing on an understanding of equity and inclusion, exceptionalities, relationship development, risk and resiliency, human development, and family systems, delivered through hands-on, interactive learning alongside community service, social innovation and changemaking initiatives.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: Georgian requires an Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) or equivalent for direct entry to this accelerated-delivery Advanced Diploma, or mature-student status for applicants without one. The programme's own academic prerequisite is Grade 12 English (C or U); applicants with prior post-secondary study in Human Services, Education, Interdisciplinary Studies, Social Sciences, Psychology or Sociology can have that coursework evaluated for transfer credit. Because students go on placement, Georgian requires an up-to-date clear criminal reference check and vulnerable sector check obtained before placement, current Standard First Aid, CPR Level C and Crisis Intervention certification, up-to-date immunization including a two-step TB test where an agency requires it, and proof of completing the Ontario Ministry of Labour's Health and Safety Awareness training; students also need a personal device meeting the programme's technical specifications. The programme page states no programme-specific language-test score; Georgian's institution-wide English Language Proficiency Requirement for advanced diploma programmes applies instead — IELTS Academic 6.0, TOEFL iBT 79, or Duolingo English Test 110.
