Overview
Offered by Humber Polytechnic's Faculty of Social & Community Services at the Lakeshore campus, this four-year honours degree examines addictions and mental health from a biopsychosocial perspective, covering the biological, psychological, social, historical, economic and political forces that shape the field. The first year is a common platform shared with Humber's other social science degrees. From the second year, students take courses in research writing, pharmacology, Indigenous and diverse perspectives, equity and inclusion, assessment and counselling, followed by further study of trauma, ethics, advanced counselling, contemporary issues and inter-professional collaboration. Students are encouraged to critically analyze systemic issues and to develop applied skills in counselling, case management, and community and program development. The program emphasizes critical thinking, leadership and professional practice, and suits students preparing for roles in prevention, harm reduction, recovery support or related mental health and addictions services.

Admission Requirements: Direct entry requires an Ontario Secondary School Diploma or accepted equivalent, including Grade 12 English (ENG4U or equivalent) at a minimum of 65 per cent, five further Grade 12 U or M courses, and an overall minimum admission grade point average of 65 per cent; mature-student status or college/university transfer status is accepted in place of the secondary-school route. The English-language requirement here is Humber's institution-wide English Language Proficiency Policy at the Bachelor's Degree band: IELTS Academic overall 6.5 with no band below 6.0, TOEFL iBT 84 with a minimum of 21 in each skill, PTE Academic 58-60, Duolingo English Test 115 or above, or CAEL 60 overall with a Writing score of 60. A Canadian citizen or permanent resident schooled outside Canada must first have their credentials assessed - ICAS course-by-course for a secondary transcript, WES for post-secondary study.
