Overview
The Diploma in Brewing and Brewery Operations is a two-year diploma where students study the science, production and business of brewing craft beer. The program combines building a solid foundation in brewing science with hands-on practical learning in our state-of-the-art 2 hectoliter pilot brewery located on the Langley campus. The curriculum was developed in consultation with the BC Craft Brewers Guild and an Advisory Committee consisting on local brewmasters, brewery owners and industry experts.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: The Faculty requirement here is KPU's undergraduate English Proficiency Requirement, set out in the university's own admission requirements. On top of it this programme asks for: a letter of intent of roughly 500 words covering why the Brewing and Brewery Operations programme interests you and what makes you a good candidate for it; being at least 19 years old on the first day of classes; and either Chemistry 11 at C+ or better (or an equivalent) together with Level E1 of KPU's Mathematics Alternatives Table, which is met by Pre-Calculus 11 at C, Foundations of Mathematics 11 at C+, IB Mathematics Analysis and Approaches SL or Applications and Interpretation SL at 3 (treated as C+), MATQ 1089 at C+, or a Math Placement Test score of 46 or above, or a recommendation from the programme's Admissions Selection Committee. Qualified applicants are then chosen by that committee, which may include faculty and staff, so a place is not automatic. KPU's calendar page sets out these requirements without separating domestic from international applicants, so the same standard applies to both.

Start Date:The University Calendar lists this programme with a Fall (September) start only - no Spring (January) or Summer (May) start - and records that the Fall 2026 intake has been cancelled, so the next available start is Fall 2027. Under the Senate-approved 2026-27 schedule the Fall term runs 8 September to 17 December 2026.
Application Deadline:KPU classifies this as a Limited Intake programme: the number of seats is capped, applications are assessed against one another, and meeting the published minimums does not guarantee admission. The University Calendar lists this programme with Fall (September) as its only start, so only the window below applies to it; KPU's institution-wide Limited Intake timetable also covers terms this programme does not admit into. The Calendar also records that the Fall 2026 intake has been cancelled, so confirm with the faculty that the next Fall intake is running before you apply. KPU notes that selected Limited Intake programmes may still consider domestic applicants after the term's final application date (1 July for Fall); international applicants get no such latitude, because KPU accepts nothing after those same dates.
