Program details

Overview

Nutrition and Food Service Management at Cambrian College is a two-year, four-semester Ontario College Diploma delivered on campus at the Barry Downe location. The program prepares students for roles overseeing food service operations and promoting nutritional health in settings such as hospitals, jails, daycares, long-term care facilities, schools, and other community organizations. Coursework builds skills in managing food services while addressing dietary needs linked to health or cultural requirements, including allergy and food-safety considerations. Cambrian states that on-campus study runs through the first three semesters, with the final semester delivered online and paired with a placement opportunity; students already working in a health care facility may be able to apply their work hours toward this placement. The curriculum is aligned with Canadian Society of Nutrition Management requirements, and the college notes opportunities to earn additional certifications such as a Food Handler Certificate. The program is listed as eligible for the Post-Graduation Work Permit. Cambrian describes it as the only program of its kind in northern Ontario. It suits students interested in food service administration and nutrition support who want a diploma-level credential combining classroom learning, hands-on lab work, and a supervised health care placement rather than a clinical dietitian pathway.

Requirements

Admission Requirements: Cambrian's Nutrition and Food Service Management page requires, for graduates of the current Ontario curriculum, a 30-credit Ontario Secondary School Diploma or equivalent, or mature-student standing, with grade 12 English at (C) or (U) and grade 11 mathematics at (C), (U) or (M). The page states the programme currently has no intakes available and is not open to international students, so Cambrian's international English-score table does not apply here. Domestic applicants meet the language condition through the grade 12 English course itself, and those missing the academic prerequisite can complete the college's free, self-paced Academic Upgrading; no GPA minimum, portfolio or interview is stated.
