Trades - Apprenticeship in Apprenticeship in Metal Fabrication

The Apprenticeship in Metal Fabrication prepares apprentices for certification as a Metal Fabricator in British Columbia. Kwantlen Polytechnic University delivers in-school technical training for apprenticeship levels 1, 2 and 3, with each level's in-school component running five weeks and concluding with an end-of-level exam; KPU does not permit students to register for levels out of sequence. Apprentices are sponsored by an employer and registered with SkilledTradesBC, which administers the BC Apprenticeship system. Completion of all in-school technical training qualifies apprentices to write the Red Seal Inter-provincial Examination; the Red Seal itself is awarded after 6,400 hours of work-based training and is recognized in every Canadian jurisdiction. Entry requires completed KPU Apprentice Registration, active registration in the BC Apprenticeship system, and a valid Trade Worker Identification number from SkilledTradesBC. Students must supply their own tools and safety equipment meeting WorkSafeBC requirements, including safety glasses and steel-toed boots.
