Program details

Overview

This graduate program in Aging and Family Science at Mount Saint Vincent University's Halifax campus is offered as either a thesis-based Master of Arts in Aging and Family Science (MA AGFS) or an applied, course-based Master of Aging and Family Science (MAGFS), letting students focus their studies on aging or on family science. The aging focus addresses issues affecting older persons, while the family science focus considers individuals and families across the life course along with the programs and policies that affect them. Students develop professional and research skills intended to support either further academic study or a career applying research and critical thinking to practice in the field, and may take part in research through the Nova Scotia Centre on Aging, with access to the Maritime Data Centre for Aging Research and Policy Analysis. The program welcomes international applicants, who are advised to apply early to allow time for a study permit. It suits students with an interest in family dynamics, aging, or related policy and practice who want a choice between a research-focused thesis path and an applied, course-based path.
