Mount Saint Vincent University, in Halifax, Nova Scotia, offers two graduate credentials in Applied Human Nutrition: the Master of Applied Human Nutrition and the Master of Science in Applied Human Nutrition. Both provide advanced-level study in food and nutrition with a long-standing emphasis on social justice and community nutrition, guided by the school's Graduate Applied Human Nutrition (GAHN) Framework, which covers nutrition across the human lifecycle, research methods and critical analysis, theories and practices for change, and innovation and leadership. The Master of Applied Human Nutrition consists of five units of coursework, while the Master of Science in Applied Human Nutrition combines three and a half units of coursework with one and a half units of thesis research; courses are offered on a rotating cycle and selected in consultation with an advisor. Graduates of accredited Canadian dietetics undergraduate programs pursuing professional registration may apply to the university's Internship Education Program alongside either master's program, and students in either program may also apply for the Food and Nutrition Practicum. Applicants must have undergraduate credit in applied statistics, biochemistry, physiology, a sociology/psychology/communications course, and a 3000- or 4000-level human nutrition course; deficiencies require additional undergraduate coursework completed at a minimum grade of B before graduate study. Applicants to the Internship Education Program must have completed an EQual(TM) Canada-accredited undergraduate program.
