PGCert in Mental Health

Mental Health is a one-year Ontario College Graduate Certificate at Niagara College designed for internationally trained nurses. The programme examines current issues and trends in mental health care in Canada, best practices across nursing and other health disciplines for supporting clients with diverse mental health disorders across the lifespan, the legal and ethical dimensions of mental health care, and interdisciplinary approaches to treatment. Experiential learning includes work with standardized patients, and graduates earn a Gentle Persuasive Approach certificate focused on caring for individuals with dementia and other cognitive conditions. Students also gain access to the Co-Curricular Record programme, which recognizes engagement, leadership and activity outside the classroom, along with international-student-specific advising and transition supports. Admission requires a college diploma or university degree in nursing; proof of English proficiency may be required where English is not the applicant's first language. Domestic applications are not accepted; the programme is open only to internationally trained nursing graduates.
