Culinary Innovation and Food Technology (Co-op)Culinary, Hospitality, Recreation & TourismOn-campusEnglish
I am thoroughly impressed with the Culinary Innovation and Food Technology program, and Niagara College. This program allowed me to learn culinary skills and food science in one program. The program’s small class sizes allowed me to learn from highly educated professors and to work beside highly skilled chefs, learning from their many years in the industry. Where else could I get this all in one program or college.
Niagara College has truly been the foundation of my culinary life. The level of Chef professors and faculty at Niagara College is just phenomenal, they will always go above and beyond to help you and guide you through every class - every step of your time there. The amount of support and the positive push that I got from the chefs at Niagara College was very crucial to me. I would never be where I am if it wasn’t for their guidance.

Even though no one knew how the pandemic would effect colleges, I feel like this year was amazing and teachers had a humility about them that I wasn’t expecting. My instructors have literally been the best instructors I’ve ever had the pleasure of being a student of. The courses are 100% what we need in the field and have experienced in the workplace. Their advice on the reality of the dental industry goes beyond textbooks. I just enjoyed myself so much and learned so much this year.

The Fitness and Health Promotion program has prepared me for the industry through both the in class education and the experiences during labs and field placement. Being taught by instructors who have years of experience in the industry has allowed me to learn from their experiences and expand my knowledge past what I would find in a textbook. Spending time in labs has allowed me to apply my knowledge and practically experience the things I learned in theory. During placement I was able to sample a couple of the various career paths I could choose to work in after graduation. Graduating from this program allows me many options such as challenging certifications to become a personal trainer or group fitness instructor, and going on to pursue further education.

We usually recommend desktop PCs with dual monitors for the best experience. Higher end laptops can be used as well but consider purchasing a second monitor that can be connected to the laptop. Dual monitors are preferred due to the number of applications you’ll be working with. Single monitors will work as well, it’s just less efficient to work with. Consider current cost effectiveness, transportability and usable life of the computer as well, ideally you want something that will perform reasonably for 3-5 years.

I took this program because I was uncertain of my post-secondary path and my future career plans. During my time at Niagara College I enjoyed learning about the world through courses like current events, global issues, human geography and multiculturalism and diversity. These courses allowed me to discover what I want to further my education in and this fall I will be attending Wilfrid Laurier University to study global issues and environmental studies. This program is a good way for someone who is unsure of their post-secondary path or someone who likes to learn a little bit of everything. The overall atmosphere of the college was positive, encouraging and friendly.

When I hired Kim (Law Clerk program graduate), my office was going through a great deal of change. I did not exactly know how my co-op student would fit in amidst the chaos. To my great surprise, Kim demonstrated great enthusiasm for administrative tasks which alleviated my concern. Eventually, she was able to transition to more complicated files. Within two months, she was demonstrating incredible awareness of client needs and legal challenges in family law. With her support and the foundational education in family law and legal research provided by Niagara College, I was able to add contested family law as an area of practice to my firm. I can’t imagine doing this area of law without her and I am so grateful for her support.

I would recommend Niagara College’s OTA & PTA program because the experience is so much more than just ‘school’. The professors here at Niagara College are extremely knowledgeable and personable. Their main goal is to see the students succeed in the program. The program is very hands-on, which helps a lot with learning new skills. This program allowed me to achieve my goals because the professors were always willing to help with any misunderstandings. This OTA & PTA program really did prepare me for the real world of teamwork and helping individuals.
I am so glad that I chose to enroll in the Office Administration Executive Co-op program. This program gave me the knowledge and skills to go above and beyond what I thought I was capable of. The professors are extremely knowledgeable and always go the extra mile when it comes to student success. The co-op portion gave me hands-on experience and allowed me to work in different office environments. This was helpful because it gave me a better idea of what path I would choose to take in my career. Before my co-op was finished, I was hired as an Executive Assistant with a local municipality, and I could not be happier! If you choose to work hard and set goals, this program will take you exactly where you want to go! Good luck!

Niagara College made me more than prepared for the “real world” and taught me what I needed to get hired as a paramedic after graduating. Niagara College opened doors in my life. This program was a springboard for me. I began taking courses in Pre-Community Services, which gave me a ‘taste’ of many career options in the helping field. I found that this program allowed me many benefits, including using credits earned to transfer into a more specific helping program. When anyone tells me that they are considering going to school but not sure what to do, I encourage them to speak to guidance, and that General Arts and Science is the right place to start their college education.

As well as promoting team work, Pre-Health also promoted independence by installing firm due dates for assignments which made me depend on myself to get things done on time. Salaries vary according to experience, education, type of setting, and geographic location. Our provincial professional association Therapeutic Recreation Ontario (TRO) completed a Salary Survey Report in 2018. According to this report, TRO members with less than two years of experience reported salaries of just over $40,000 per year. On average, TRO members with a Recreation Therapy college diploma were earning a little over $60,000 per year. Interestingly, TRO member’s average salaries for those working in Southwestern Ontario were amongst some of the highest in the province.
Whether it be wind, solar, or geothermal, the Renewable Energies industry is still so young and in its early stages. Niagara College has done a fantastic job meeting the need for workers in this industry with the Renewable Energies Technician Program. But what makes the program so successful is the caring faculty behind it all. The Renewable Energies Technician program has led me to an exciting career in the Wind Industry, where I use the skills and knowledge learned in the program.

Sport ManagementBusiness AdministrationOn-campusEnglish
After attending College at a previous school, I took a year off before enrolling at Niagara College. During my time as a student in the Sports Management program, I learned from a business focused curriculum with an emphasis on the sports world. Taking an unconventional route through the program, I was able to focus all my efforts on completing course curriculum, before starting my full time internship in semi-professional sport. Throughout the program I learned about marketing, media, professional selling, operating sports facilities, and even tournament management. All of these classes helped me develop as a professional, and provided me with skills and knowledge that I still use today. Niagara College not only taught me the necessary course materials to be successful, but provided me the opportunity to really think about what I wanted to do in sport. Throughout the program, you are educated on the different areas of sport, and encouraged to think about what type of career path you want to pursue. I found the faculty to be great resources when figuring out my career path, building my resume, cover letter, and finding different job opportunities. Without the help from Niagara College, I would not have had the opportunity to develop and pursue my career in sport.

Thanks to NC TESL, I’m exactly where I want to be – in a classroom teaching ESL to newcomers to Canada.

A few months ago, I didn’t know anything about welding, but so far, so good I can boldly say I am getting better with time. I like how the teachers engage and collaborate with us. For me personally, they have been patient, understanding and nice. They help us when we are facing challenges in the lab and even outside the lab. I’m glad I am been taught by teachers who inspire me to do well and learn amazing welding skills.

I’ve done the university degree and it didn’t provide me with the experience I wanted. Lots of memorization, teaching of myself and heavily weighted exam regurgitation. I didn’t feel like I learned much or that I was very important as a student. At Niagara it is extremely hands on, I learn something in lecture one day and have to be able to understand and apply it for actual usage the very next. Classes are small and the teachers know you personally so the quality of learning and support is improved. I actually feel like I’m being prepared for what my future job entails.

Becoming a graduate of the Acting for Film and Television program at Niagara College has changed my life. Not even a month after our convocation I was on a flight to Vancouver to work on a film. From there I moved back and had my first audition in Toronto, landed my very first series, became a full member of ACTRA and signed with an Agent. Without this program I would never have had the courage or knowledge to do any of these things. The program implements every single aspect of film and TV you’d ever need to know to feel comfortable and prepared going into the acting world.

I would recommend this program highly if you are not too sure where you would like to go in your artistic career. You finish the program feeling prepared and set on your goals, which is why I think this program is very beneficial in guiding young artists.
This program has really opened my eyes to what’s happening in the distilling industry, especially in Ontario. I’ve learned way more than I was expecting to about the little details and the science behind it all, right down to what ‘yeast metabolism’ is and why it’s important. I never realized these things existed and if I had gone straight to opening my own distillery rather than enrolling in this program, I don’t think I would’ve been as successful.

When I originally decided to pursue postsecondary education I chose to attend university and was very disappointed. I just felt like a “number” that was just passing through. Transitioning to Niagara College I have a completely different perspective. Not only do we interact with more hands-on approaches, but I find the teachers always give their 100% all the time and are always willing to help or point you in the right direction. Deciding to attend NC changed my perspective on school and I enjoy attending labs and classes more so than I ever have before in a school setting. I am glad I chose to attend Niagara College!

This program […] is part of an Inter-Professional Education system that is quite unique. Getting to hear first-hand from different professionals about what their jobs entail has been a real eye-opening experience. I have learned so much about how these very different occupations are interlinked, in that they must communicate effectively with each other for the betterment of the patient. Without their dedication to working as a team patient outcomes could be compromised.
The Computer Engineering Technician program began with a thorough introduction to electricity and electronics, which provided a very strong foundation upon which to further my understanding of the inner-workings of the computer itself. Now that I am in my final term here, I cannot believe how much I have learned in less than two years. Because of the hands-on experience I have gained in the lab environment, and the kindness and dedication of my professors—who, since first term, continue to ask me how I’m doing and assist me whenever I need help—I am confident I will be well prepared for my future endeavors, and I am thankful I chose Niagara College to make that happen.
