Overview
Carpenters build and repair a vast array of structures made of wood, wood-substitutes and other materials. Many work for construction companies, contractors and maintenance departments while others are self-employed. Carpenter is a nationally designated trade under the Interprovincial Red Seal program. Carpenters assemble and erect forms for concrete, wood and metal frame construction and use plans and instruments to prepare for excavating and shoring. On smaller projects, they direct concrete placement, and install exterior and interior finish materials such as siding, doors, windows and cabinets. Levels 1 – 3 reflect harmonized curriculum.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: Admission to this SkilledTradesBC-registered apprenticeship is level-specific rather than governed by academic grades: Level 1 requires registration as an apprentice with SkilledTradesBC or proof of completion of a related Foundation Trades Training programme, and Levels 2 through 4 each require completion of the preceding apprenticeship level or a pass on the corresponding SkilledTradesBC placement exam. No English, French, or other language proficiency score is published for entry. Once enrolled, apprentices must maintain a minimum of 70% in all courses, and students moving between curriculum versions may require gap training. Applicants must supply CSA-approved safety-toe footwear, safety glasses, and a computer meeting minimum specifications. Delivered at Dawson Creek on a cohort basis, Level 1 begins in April, Level 2 in October, Level 3 in January, and Level 4 in March.

Application Deadline:Northern Lights College uses one admissions calendar for domestic and international applicants alike, applying through EducationPlannerBC or in person. Applications open about eleven months before each intake: 1 October for the following Fall, 1 February for the following Winter, and 1 June for the following Spring. For the 2027 cycle the priority deadline is 30 September 2026 for Winter 2027 entry, 31 January 2027 for Spring 2027 entry, and 31 May 2027 for Fall 2027 entry (dual-credit applicants get until 24 October 2026 and 23 June 2027 respectively), with a tuition deposit due about a month after each priority date. NLC states international applicants already in Canada on a valid visa follow the same domestic deadlines; after the priority date, seats remain open, on a rolling basis, until each term's add/drop date. These are institution-wide dates; this programme publishes no deadline of its own.
