Criticism and Curatorial Practice is a four-year Bachelor of Fine Arts (Honours) programme at OCAD University focused on the professional practices of museums, galleries and other cultural institutions. Coursework combines exhibition-making, art writing and cultural theory with hands-on studio experience, drawing on art history, contemporary art, design and visual culture. OCAD describes it as the first undergraduate programme in Canada preparing artists specifically to work as critics and curators. Students develop skills in organizing exhibitions, writing criticism and engaging with contemporary curatorial debates, alongside practising artists, critics and curators in the Toronto arts community. Admission requires official transcripts, a statement of intent and a portfolio. Graduates pursue careers in curatorial and gallery work, arts writing, cultural criticism, arts administration or continue to graduate study in curatorial practice, art history or related fields.
