Overview
The Bachelor of Arts in Human Services – Child & Youth Care Major is a four-year, 120-credit-hour degree preparing graduates to support at-risk children, youth, and families across group homes, treatment centres, youth centres, therapeutic foster care, community-based, and family support programs. The curriculum combines biblical and theological studies with the social sciences, covering assessment, prevention, intervention, and support services in child and youth care. Coursework includes Biblical & Theological Studies (30 credit hours); General Arts (36 credit hours) such as Child and Youth Mental Health, Adolescent Psychology, and Canadian Aboriginal Cultures; and Professional Studies (51 credit hours) including Professional Foundations of Child & Youth Care, Theoretical Approaches in Human Services, Skills & Techniques in Human Services, Substance Abuse & Related Health Issues, Working with Children & Adolescents, Supporting Families, Assessment & Treatment Milieu, and Working with Groups, plus a nine-credit Child & Youth Care Practicum and three Field Education courses. Graduates take positions in community agencies, social service agencies, child care programs, and churches.

Admission Requirements: Admission is granted by the Admissions Committee on review of a completed application, which includes a non-refundable application fee, the Application for Admission form, an Autobiographical Profile form, the RMC Community Responsibilities Agreement form, two personal reference forms, and official transcripts from secondary and all post-secondary institutions attended. Applicants presenting a high school diploma must have completed four 30-level courses (or equivalents), including English 30-1/30-2 and Social 30-1/30-2 (or equivalents), with a minimum grade average of 65%. Admission may also be granted on the basis of post-secondary transfer, mature student status (21 years or older and out of high school for at least two years), visiting/unclassified student status, or returning student status. Applicants whose first language is not English must demonstrate English proficiency through TOEFL, IELTS, or CAEL.
