Overview
The Bachelor of Social Work at the University of Calgary is a nationally accredited undergraduate degree recognized across Canada and internationally, allowing graduates to begin registration with social work regulatory bodies. The program is offered through three pathways: a four-year full-time program with blended on-campus and online delivery at the Calgary main campus; a two-year blended program for applicants with 57 transferable university units or an existing degree, combining one on-campus day per week in Calgary, Edmonton, or Lethbridge with online coursework; and a two-year fully online program for specific student populations, with practicum placements arranged near students' home communities. All students complete 400 hours of supervised practicum under a registered social worker, with after-degree and university-entry students completing an additional 300 hours. Admission Requirements: Direct entry from Alberta high school (Social Work, four-year route) requires English Language Arts 30-1 plus four further approved courses, one of which may be an approved option; no specific math or science course is required. University of Calgary states an estimated competitive admission average in the low 80s for this program. These figures are for the Alberta high-school direct-entry route only; other curricula and international applicants are assessed on separate criteria not covered here.

Application Deadline:For Fall 2027 entry, the University of Calgary opens undergraduate applications for domestic applicants on 1 October 2026 and for international applicants on 15 August 2026, both closing on the same firm application deadline of 1 March 2027, with supporting documents due by 15 March 2027 and offers accepted by 1 May 2027. International applicants follow the identical March 1 deadline; the university publishes no separate, later international closing date. Applications are not accepted on a rolling basis after the deadline for most direct-entry programmes, though a small number of programmes (e.g. Nursing) run further selection rounds into the summer while space remains. These are institution-wide dates; this programme publishes no deadline of its own.
