Overview
This one-year certificate (31 credit hours) was developed by Hope City Church in Barrie, Ontario, in partnership with Rocky Mountain College to train leaders for ministry among marginalized communities. Instruction combines classroom and online coursework with field education in real-world urban ministry settings. Biblical & Theological Studies (12 credit hours) covers an introduction to the Bible, Christian spirituality, and Christian faith and practice. Leadership & Discipleship (18 credit hours) includes Leadership Principles, Issues for Leadership Effectiveness, and Leading Ministry Among the Marginalized, plus two electives from courses such as Ministry Among the Marginalized Practicum, Communicating Effectively, or Team Leadership Theories & Practices. A one-credit Field Education Among Marginalized People course completes the program. Graduates are prepared for leadership roles in urban ministry and discipleship work and may continue into further study at Rocky Mountain College.

Admission Requirements: Admission is decided by the Admissions Committee on review of a completed application, which includes a non-refundable application fee, an Application for Admission form, an Autobiographical Profile form, an RMC Community Responsibilities Agreement form, two personal reference forms, and transcripts from all secondary and post-secondary institutions attended. Applicants who have completed a high school diploma from a government-recognized North American high school (or equivalent, including GED) are eligible for admission; high school transcripts must show four Grade 12-level courses, including English and Social Studies, with a minimum overall average of 65%. Students whose first language is not English must demonstrate English proficiency with a minimum TOEFL iBT score of 83 overall (20 in each of four test sections), an IELTS Academic score of 7, a CAEL score of 70, or at least two years of full-time study at an English-medium secondary or post-secondary institution.
