Overview
The Graduate Certificate in High Performance Coaching and Technical Leadership is a one-year, 12-credit program from UBC's School of Kinesiology for experienced coaches and technical managers who want to progress in high-performance sport. It is run in partnership with national high-performance sport agencies and uses a blended model: a four-day in-person orientation on the Vancouver campus, after which all study is online and part-time on a schedule designed for working professionals. The four kinesiology courses cover gap analysis, performance planning, coaching effectiveness, and the practical application of these ideas in high-performance settings. Credits can later be applied toward a master's degree, and students can also earn modules of the NCCP Advanced Coaching Diploma.

Admission Requirements: Applicants typically need a Bachelor's degree in Human Kinetics, Physical Education, Kinesiology or a related field, meeting one of two academic paths: a minimum overall average in the B+ range (about 76%) in third- and fourth-year coursework, or at least 12 credits of third- or fourth-year coursework in the A range (about 80%). Candidates without either academic profile may still be considered given significant formal training and relevant professional experience or demonstrable expertise. On the coaching side, candidates typically need five years of coaching experience at the national team or Canada Games level, or five years as a carded national team athlete, and National Coaching Certification Program qualification at Level 3 or Competition-Development, recommended by a national or provincial sports organization. Earlier dates apply only to entrance-award consideration -- 15 November 2026 for the International Scholars Program and 1 December 2026 for Presidential/Centennial/Beyond Tomorrow scholars. Several limited-entry programmes -- Law, Pharmacy, Dentistry, Nursing (advanced entry), Occupational/Physical Therapy, Social Work and Teacher Education -- set their own earlier deadlines from October 2026 through February 2027. These are institution-wide dates; this programme publishes no deadline of its own.
