Education Secondary STEM: Bachelor's Degree (BEd)

Admission Requirements: ACADEMIC BASIS: a four-year Bachelor of Science, 120 credit hours, or its equivalent, in Biology, Chemistry, General Science, Mathematics or Physics, carrying a minimum grade point average of C+ across your most recent 60 credit hours. TEACHABLE SUBJECTS: within that degree you must hold either one teachable major or two teachable minors in subjects taught in secondary schools — a teachable major is 30 credit hours of upper-division courses (numbered 3000 or 4000) plus the required lower-division courses, and a teachable minor is 18 credit hours of upper-division courses plus the required lower-division courses. ENGLISH: six credit hours of acceptable English literature and composition at any level, completed with a C+ average. Courses in linguistics, grammar, language study, communication, technical or business writing, or English as a second language do not count towards this requirement. ALSO REQUIRED: two confidential statements from referees, submitted through a fillable form sent to them by Admissions after your application is processed; a letter of intent, using a link sent once your application is processed; and a personal interview if you are shortlisted. EXPERIENCE: there is no formal requirement for paid or volunteer work with school-aged children or youth, and applicants without it are still considered, but TRU strongly encourages classroom, youth-program, tutoring or coaching experience, especially in the age group or subject you intend to teach.
