Accounting Technician Diploma is a diploma in Accounting programme taught at Thompson Rivers University in Kamloops, Canada. The programme runs for 2 years, delivered on campus. Teaching is in English. Tuition for international students is CAD 515 per credit (CAD 216 per credit for local students).
This diploma builds a broad understanding of the skills needed to find work with public accounting firms handling files and basic tax returns, or as general accounting clerks, accounts-payable, accounts-receivable, and payroll staff within larger organizations. Graduates can also extend their options by laddering from here into a bachelor's degree on the way to a Chartered Professional Accountant designation.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: Thompson Rivers University's Open Learning Accounting Technician Diploma admits on an open-admission basis, so no high-school course, GPA, or English-test score bars entry. The program page recommends, without requiring, Foundations of Mathematics 12 at a minimum C+ and English Studies 12 or English First Peoples 12 at a minimum of 73% (or equivalent) as useful preparation. A residency condition applies to the credential itself: a minimum of nine TRU credits, distance or on-campus, must be completed, and students must maintain a cumulative GPA of 2.00 or higher with a grade of C- or better in every course counted toward the diploma once enrolled, a completion standard rather than an admission threshold. As an Open Learning program, TRU's on-campus secondary-graduation and mature-student bases and its IELTS/TOEFL direct-entry minimums do not apply. No portfolio or interview condition is published.
Application Details
Application Deadline:Domestic applicants (Canadian citizens and permanent residents) apply directly to TRU: for the September (Fall) intake the deadline is 1 May, for January (Winter) it is 1 September, and for the May (Summer) intake it is 1 January; applications for most programs open 1 October, and a deadline falling on a weekend or statutory holiday moves to the next working day. International applicants follow the same intake structure with deadlines of 1 May (September), 1 October (January) and 1 February (May); TRU still reviews later applications where space remains, though high-volume programs can close early, so admission runs on a rolling basis around these published cut-offs for the 2027 entry cycle. These are institution-wide dates; this programme publishes no deadline of its own.
