Overview
The Graduate Diploma in Psychotherapy (Diplôme d'études supérieures en psychothérapie, DÉSP) at Université de Hearst is a one-year, 45-credit second-cycle program leading to a Diplôme d'études supérieures. Coursework is built around the skills profile set by Ontario's regulatory college for psychotherapists, using a humanistic, experiential approach that addresses the bio-psycho-social dimensions of client wellbeing and prepares graduates to practise in remote and regional settings. Theoretical courses are delivered by videoconference, and the supervised practicum can be completed in the student's own city of residence, with two weeks of mandatory in-person attendance near the end of the program. A criminal record check is required given the work with vulnerable populations, along with one letter of recommendation from a professor or supervisor and an interview with the program's selection committee.
