Overview
The Master of Agriculture (Renewable Resources) is a course-based graduate program offered by the Department of Renewable Resources at the University of Alberta. Graduate study in the department addresses conservation biology, forest ecology and management, agriculture and the environment, reclamation and restoration of land and water, and environmental soil science. Applicants require an appropriate undergraduate degree, typically a BSc in Agriculture or an allied discipline such as Geology, Biological Sciences, Forestry, or Environmental and Conservation Sciences. The program is designed to be completed in 16 to 20 months of full-time study, though a heavier course load can shorten completion to 10 months; part-time study is permitted over a maximum of six years. A joint program with the Faculty of Business also allows students to complete both a Master of Business Administration and a Master of Agriculture over two calendar years of full-time study. Delivery is on campus.

Admission Requirements: Applicants require an appropriate undergraduate degree, normally a BSc in Agriculture or an allied discipline such as Geology, Biological Sciences, Forestry, or Environmental and Conservation Sciences, with a minimum admission GPA of 3.0 on the 4-point scale from the University of Alberta (or an equivalent qualification), calculated on the last 60 units of graded coursework or the equivalent of the last two years of full-time coursework. Applicants must submit a curriculum vitae, a Research Statement Form, and three letters of reference. Where applicable, a TOEFL (internet-based) score of 90 (or 4.5 on the scale used for tests written on or after January 21, 2026), or an equivalent score on an approved English language examination, is required.
