Overview
This is a four-year, on-campus Bachelor of Education at the University of Calgary's Werklund School of Education, totaling 120 units of study across 21 education courses, 6 foundational courses, 5 electives, and 8 teachable-subject-area courses. Applicants select a route — elementary, secondary, or K-12 — along with a teachable subject area at the point of admission. Admission Requirements: This is a direct-entry undergraduate program: general University of Calgary admission requires Alberta Grade 12 graduation, or the equivalent, including English Language Arts 30-1, plus four further Grade 12-level (30-level) courses; admission is competitive and neither the programme page nor the university's general requirements publish a fixed minimum average, since prerequisite courses vary by teachable subject and by the Elementary, Secondary or K-12 route chosen. All applicants must meet the university's English Language Proficiency requirement: IELTS Academic 6.5 overall, TOEFL iBT 86 (tests before January 21, 2026; a revised 4.5 overall with a 4.5 listening minimum applies after that date), or Duolingo English Test 120; exemptions apply after three years of English-medium secondary study, or two years of English-medium post-secondary study at an accredited Canadian institution. All Bachelor of Education students must also provide a current, clear Police Information Check with a Vulnerable Sector Check before field-experience courses.
