Overview
This undergraduate program leads to a Bachelor of Commerce (BComm) with a concentration in business technology management through the Haskayne School of Business. The program examines the use, management, and impact of information technologies on individuals, organizations, industries, the economy, and society, including how technology can improve processes, along with product maintenance and project management, taught through formal presentations, group projects, and case studies. Core courses include Data Management and Business Analytics, Introduction to Business Analytics, Introduction to Business Skills, Principles of Macroeconomics, and Principles of Microeconomics. The program offers a co-operative work placement that alternates paid full-time work experience with academic study, study-abroad opportunities, mentorship connections with established professionals, and collaborative project work with peers. Graduates are prepared for career opportunities in marketing, finance, accounting, and human resources, and the degree can also serve as preparation for graduate studies or professional programs such as law, medicine, veterinary medicine, or education. Admission Requirements: Direct entry to the Haskayne School of Business's Bachelor of Commerce; the Business Technology Management concentration is declared after first year. Required courses (Alberta high school): English Language Arts 30-1, Mathematics 30-1, two of Aboriginal Studies 30 (5 credits), Biology 30, Chemistry 30, CTS Computing Science 30 (5 credits), a 30-level language/language-and-culture course, Mathematics 31, Physics 30, Science 30 or Social Studies 30-1, plus one further approved course or option. Equivalent IB, AP or other international curricula are accepted via the university's requirements tool. Estimated competitive admission average for this cycle: High 80s.
