The Master of Fine Arts (MFA) is a thesis-based graduate program in which students pursue six semesters of study in art-making and research creation, working across media including sculpture, printmaking, photography, painting, drawing, and media art and technology. Students are given studio space and full access to departmental resources. The program culminates in a thesis exhibition accompanied by a written support paper and an oral defence. As a terminal degree, the MFA can prepare graduates to pursue a PhD in allied fields, and graduates go on to work as professional artists, educators, curators, arts administrators and entrepreneurs. The program takes two years to complete full-time, with a four-year maximum, and admits students for a September 1 start. Admission requires a four-year baccalaureate degree, a minimum 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale over the past two years of full-time study, a portfolio of up to 20 images and up to five minutes of video, a written statement of research intent of no more than 1000 words, and two reference letters.
