Program details

Overview

The International Dentist Degree Program (IDDP) is an advanced-entry pathway to the Doctor of Dental Medicine (D.M.D.) degree at the University of Manitoba's Dr. Gerald Niznick College of Dentistry, designed for graduates of international dental programs not accredited by the Commission on Dental Accreditation of Canada. After a summer orientation course (DENT 2440), admitted students join the regular D.M.D. cohort at the third-year level and complete two further years of classroom and clinical study alongside domestically trained students. The curriculum covers the same clinical and didactic content as the final two years of the standard D.M.D. program, preparing graduates to sit the National Dental Examining Board of Canada examinations required for licensure in any Canadian province. Admission proceeds through one of two assessment tracks based on prior clinical examinations completed abroad or through Canadian equivalency testing. As of this review, applications to the IDDP have been temporarily suspended.

Requirements

Admission Requirements: Applicants must hold a four-year university dental degree from a program not accredited by the Commission on Dental Accreditation of Canada. Track A requires completion of the Advanced Dental Admission Test (ADAT) by March 1 of the application year and no participation in NDEB's Assessment of Clinical Skills or Assessment of Clinical Judgement exams that year; Track B requires passing the Assessment of Fundamental Knowledge and Assessment of Clinical Judgment exams within the prior three years and completing the National Dental Examination of Clinical Competence by the preceding December. Proof of English language proficiency is also required. Applications to the IDDP have been temporarily suspended.
